Koondaideri Partner With Viento

Hitachi ZX270LC-3 excavators - the first two machines purchased by Indigenous contractor

Koodaideri Contracting Services (KCS) are a 100 percent Indigenous owned company run by members of the Banjyma Language Group in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The KCS team has over 100 years combined experience in the construction and mining industries, headed up by the Todd family, which have been mining in the Pilbara for three generations.

The company provides dry and wet hire civil and construction equipment to major mining and gas companies. It also has expertise in supervision, skilled trades and rail operations.

KVG Joint Venture Pty Ltd (trading as Koodaideri Viento JV) – a strategic partnership between KCS and Viento Group Limited – aims to strengthen the mining and construction capabilities of both partners.

A cooperative business arrangement has been established for the market and tender of specific mining opportunities in the Pilbara based on construction and maintenance projects on associated native title land of the Banyjima people.

Viento is an ASX-listed company committed to building strong relationships with Indigenous communities.

It specialises in civil contracting, mining and utility services, and land subdivisions with continued expansion into bulk earthworks and infrastructure projects.

According to Managing Director of KCS, Peter Todd, the establishment of Koodaideri Viento JV will create employment opportunities for Indigenous communities and secure a solid foundation for future generations.

“KCS take great pride in aligning our company with Viento to deliver sustainability and professionalism for a successful business,” he said.

“The joint venture will aim to create opportunities for both education and employment to help support local communities and set an example for other indigenous businesses to follow.”

The recent purchase of two Hitachi ZX270LC-3 excavators is the first major investment in equipment by Koodaideri Viento JV.

“These Hitachi excavators allow our company to develop a reputation in delivering sustainable and quality projects within the civil and construction industry,” said Mr Todd.

“KCS and Viento personnel have previous experience with Hitachi excavators and have found them to be the right machines for project requirements. Operators are really impressed with the comfort and mobility of the ZX270LC-3s and the backup of Hitachi’s support team.”

The machines are currently undertaking pre-concentrator pond cyclone repairs at Rio Tinto’s Dampier Salt Port Hedland operations – Koodaideri Viento JV’s first project. The Dampier Salt Port Hedland operation covers an area over 9000 hectares and produces 3.2 million tonnes of salt annually.

“KCS is looking forward to building a strong business relationship with Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia (HCA) that will lead to our company becoming an Indigenous powerhouse in civil construction within the mining industry,” said Mr Todd.

“Our dealings with Marubeni Equipment Finance (MEF) proved efficient with ‘no fuss’. The Koodaideri Viento JV team would like to thank HCA and MEF for their support and professionalism in delivering quality equipment for our business. HCA’s management and sales team were very professional in supplying us with knowledge of their products.”
