Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia (HCA) Pty Ltd participated in both exhibitions and displayed a ZW180-5 wheel loader on the Hitachi stand. The Hitachi ZW180-5 wheel loader is the most best suited machine for the waste and recycling industry.

Waste Expo took place at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre on the 23rd & 24th of October 2019. This ‘free to attend’ event was the largest gathering of waste management and resource professionals in Australia, attracting more than 4,400 visitors over the two-day period. Waste Expo was co-located with All-Energy Australia, Energy Efficiency and ISSA Cleaning, forming Australia’s most significant showcase for the waste, recycling, environment, and energy efficient industries.

The Australasian Waste and Recycling Expo (AWRE) took place at the International Convention Centre in Sydney on the 30th & 31st of October 2019, AWRE is Australia’s longest running marketplace for buyers and suppliers.
In addition to supplying new machinery, Hitachi Gunnedah provides ongoing parts and service support to the growing population of mining equipment in the region and manages strong relationships not only with Whitehaven Coal but also other major customers and local industries. The Gunnedah facility signifies HCA’s commitment for long-term growth within the mining industry and regional New South Wales.

Employees at Hitachi Gunnedah have also had their hard work recognised, being nominated for the Outstanding Supplier award as part of the NSW Mining Industry and Supplier Awards.

Hitachi Gunnedah's parts and services manager Matthew Bradley said the branch was "certainly pleased" a member of the community had nominated them for the award.

"Everyone in the branch puts in as much as they can give to the [mining] industry and it's something we're all pretty passionate about."

Mr Bradley and his team service about 90 pieces of machinery in the area, with Whitehaven's Maules Creek coal mine owning about 65 of these.

NSW Minerals Council chief executive officer Stephen Galilee said the awards "acknowledge key contributors to the important role of mining in NSW".

"The contributions made by our award finalists are critical to the ongoing pursuit of excellence in our industry and showcase some of the best our state mining sector has to offer," Mr Galilee said.

NSW Minerals Council's Stephen Galilee said that the awards highlighted the importance of mining in fostering growth in regional communities by providing jobs and investment.

"Our Industry and Suppliers' Awards highlight the vital role mining plays in NSW, particularly the contribution our industry makes to regional communities. We had outstanding entries for the awards this year, reflecting the quality of our state's world-class mining sector," Mr Galilee said.

During the Gunnedah branch opening, the local community and customers enjoyed an afternoon viewing the machines on display and were welcomed with complimentary food and drinks.

HCA’s General Manager of Mining Eric Green says the business we continue ‘to invest in new facilities to show all mining and construction equipment customers that we want to continue our support for their current and planned new fleets of equipment’ he said.

One lucky visitor Scott won himself a brand new Hitachi 50” HDR UHD Smart TV by taking part in the jelly bean guessing competition. The money raised from this and the merchandise will go towards our ongoing support of the Humpty Dumpty Foundation.

“The Diesel Dirt and Turf expo was an excellent chance to engage with our customers face to face. The Hitachi stand was a popular visit by many existing customers as well as gaining new leads for the business over the three days.” said NSW Sales Manager, Steven Jones. With 35 years’ experience operating a successful commercial bricklaying business in Geelong, Lionel launched MultiSkills Training in 2011 in Werribee, Victoria to service students and clients within the Geelong and Melbourne Metro regions.

Now 8 years on, the company is now a leading RTO and provider of training for new entrants or current workers and businesses wanting to upskill their existing workforce. Their training programs are tailored to the public, industry and corporate clients. “I identified the need for bespoke quality training which meets the needs of the individual, our clients, and the industry”, stated Lionel. MultiSkills is committed to providing clients with superior training. All trainers and assessors are experts in the civil and building construction fields, training over 4000 students per year.

Recently expanding their operations to an additional facility in Geelong, the team required a fleet of reliable excavators to assist in training and assessment as well as the conduct civil construction excavator operations unit of competency. The company are establishing themselves in the Geelong region to give local students and businesses the opportunity for learning, development and gaining valuable transferable skills for careers ranging from domestic property development up to working on Victoria’s Major projects such as West Gate Tunnel Project and Metro Tunnel Project.

MultiSkills recently accepted delivery of four brand new Hitachi ZX33U-5 mini excavators bringing their current total number of Hitachi machines to 12 including 8 x ZX38U-5 excavators. Lionel and the team at MultiSkills value reliability as their machines are being used constantly for training and assessment. “The machines are performing very well, we have had no major problems. We have a current combined total of around 30,000 operating hours across our machines.” He also states good re-sale value and easy access to parts as major influences towards his decision to purchase Hitachi excavators.

Additionally MultiSkills Training has found HCA and sales representative Shane Hickson to be accommodating and supportive at all stages of the machine purchasing process. “We have always found Hitachi Australia excellent to deal with, prompt to respond to any queries or quotations and delivery of machines, associated equipment and parts has always been on time as promised” said Lionel.

The National Construction Equipment Convention (NCEC 2018)

This year, the National Construction Equipment Convention (NCEC 2018) was held at the Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park across a three day event. This is Australia's first national event for the civil engineering and infrastructure construction industry, with an aim to facilitate industry development by displaying cutting-edge technology, construction-related products and equipment demonstrations to businesses in the construction sector.

Ltd. (HCA) attended Sydney’s only waste and recycling industry event, the Australasian Waste and recycling Expo (AWRE). The event was located at the International Convention Centre - ICC Sydney in Darling Harbour and has become the most respected showcase of effective, profitable and sustainable waste and recycling solutions on the Australian exhibition calendar.

Records were broken with double the attendees of the previous event entering within the first two hours of the opening day. Over the two days there were a total of 2461 visitors and Hitachi were amongst 120 exhibiting brands featured. A highlight was the speaker series headed by industry heavyweights like Anissa Levy, Acting Chair & CEO at NSW Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) and Dr John Williams, the UK’s leading plastics expert and Director at Aquapak Polymers. Speakers covered important topics such as recycling, sustainability and innovation in waste.

The Hitachi ZW180-5 wheel loader was showcased at the event, with a number of Sales Representatives from the company attending to meet and greet with customers. Through this HCA was able to demonstrate how the brand is making an impact in the waste and recycling industry.

Environmental sustainability was a significant focus for the event, with a goal of just 5% of the two-day event waste being sent to landfill. The AWRE, ICC Sydney and event partners worked together towards this target and lead a positive shift in behaviour within the industry.

HCA is looking forward to attending The Australasian Waste and Recycling Expo again on the 30th and 31st of October 2019.

A very merry safety message from Hitachi

As the year is winding to a close, Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia (HCA) would like to take the opportunity to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and safe and prosperous New Year. Our business would not be able to grow and thrive without the ongoing support and loyalty of our orange family and for that we are deeply grateful.

As an extremely safety conscious business, HCA values safety above all else and with the impending silly season would like to encourage cautiousness and care when enjoying this exciting time of year with family and friends.

Admitting we’re all susceptible to a little road rage at times is one thing, however motor vehicle accidents are a leading cause of accidental injury and death in Australia with it spiking during the holiday period. Please take extra precautions when you hit the road, even if it means hearing ‘are we there yet?’ 20 more times over!

Our Aussie summer is also one of the harshest, so please remember to ‘Slip! Slop! Slap!’ and wear a hat to avoid severe UV radiation and possible nasty sunburn.

For many of us, Christmas is a time for friends, family, food and more food. But for many, it can be a particularly isolating and lonely time. We all have what it takes to ask, ‘are you ok?’ and support those struggling with life. There are many resources available to combat those in need, so be sure to look out for your loved ones this Christmas.

And lastly, there are plenty of exciting new things to come for HCA in 2019, so stay tuned and we’ll see you in the New Year!

HITACHI SOCIAL INNOVATION FORUM 2018

After hugely successful forums globally and in Australia, Hitachi Limited along with the Hitachi group companies including Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia (HCA) brought the Hitachi Social Innovation Forum (HSIF) to Sydney for a second time, on Wednesday 21st November 2018.

HCA were keen to be involved in Winslow’s bold idea from the outset, by contributing to the cost of painting the excavator blue, and in addition, they are generously matching Winslow’s own donation to beyondblue of $5,000, to support the awareness campaign.

Rohan Davidson, Winslow Executive General Manager, commented:

“Mental health issues are prominent within the construction industry so as a company that cares for our workforce and our industry, we are determined to make a difference. It is no surprise that Hitachi wanted to get on board with ‘Big Blue’, and were very supportive of us painting their machine, and creating an eye-catching ‘message’. In the field, the machine will encourage people who are struggling to reach out and seek support from workmates, family and friends. We thank them immensely for their support.”

The Hitachi excavator ‘Big Blue’ was unveiled at Winslow’s Rathdowne by Villawood site (Wollert) on Tuesday 15 May 2018 and has since been seen working around Melbourne’s northern suburbs – keeping mental health at the front of Winslow workers’ minds and encouraging people to talk about the matter and reach out for help if needed.

Said Mark Lindner, Hitachi Branch Manager – Victoria (Dandenong, Somerton & Albury): “Having been approached by Winslow, we felt this was a fantastic and innovative way to help ‘start the conversation’ about mental health, and we wanted to play a full part in making a positive impact in this industry. As a company we are strong supporters of beyondblue and as a business we always strive to strengthen our care for our workforce and that of our partners, and this is just another example of that. ‘Safety at work’ means mental safety, too.”

Mr Davidson added: “It's fantastic that Hitachi were quick to partner with us. It is support like this that help’s to make the ideas become reality! I would urge anyone who is interested to contact me.” Further information on the campaign and support programs for families and staff can be found at winslow.com.au/bigblue

HITACHI’S EX1200-7 SUNDOWNER LAUNCH & FAMILY OPEN DAY

Following the official announcement of Hitachi’s EX-7 series of mining excavators, the EX1200-7 has been unveiled at the premiere EX1200-7 Sundowner launch event in Perth, Western Australia.

On Thursday 5th July, Hitachi Construction Machinery (HCM) officially announced the upcoming release of the EX-7 series of hydraulic mining excavators on its global website.

The EX-7 series is heavily focused on safety, productivity and connectivity moving into the era of Internet of Things (IoT). Another key selling point of the EX-7 series is that it offers the choice of MTU or Cummins engines for most models, as well as the option of either a Tier 4 Final or Fuel Consumption Optimisation environmental configuration. Over the coming months there will be model launches happening throughout the world, as this six-model series gradually makes its way to market.

This year, the expo attracted an outstanding number of adult visitors, more than 76,000 were recorded over the three days it ran. The national earthmoving equipment expo was held from April 13 to 15, 2018 at the grounds of the Penrith Panthers Club (NSW). The premier construction event is committed to bringing together the largest range of earthmoving machinery, attachments, Ag machinery, trucks and mowing equipment to Western Sydney. This family-friendly show is managed by representatives of the Australian earthmoving equipment industry with the aim to help construction contractors keep up to date with all the latest technologies in the industry.

The event proved a fantastic opportunity for Hitachi and the Sydney branch to showcase a range of innovative products. This year’s exhibit showcased the Hitachi mini excavator range; ZX17U-5, ZX26U-5, ZX33U-5, ZX38U-5, two ZX48U-5, ZX55U-5 and ZX65USB-5 along with one mid-size ZX250-5 excavator, a ZW150-5 wheel loader and a John Deere 770GP motor grader.

HCA proved a prominent exhibitor at the show with an impressive stand and machine showcase.
ConSite closely monitors the machines’ operational status and alarms, ensuring customers are operating highly tuned machines specific to their needs. Operational data is relayed through the satellite and stored in the E-Service data base. The ConSite service then automatically creates an individual machine monthly report which is sent to the customer and the dealer along with emergency alarms. The alarm notifications are sent as they occur so that customers can identify operational issues with their machines in a timely manner.

Frank Geranio, Operations Support Manager in HCA Service says “The impressive ConSite system gives Hitachi owners access to their machines’ data information, accessible like never before. This gives our customers the ability to improve the management of their equipment and lower their operating costs.”

Now customers have access to the all-new ConSite Oil, released this April into the market taking the service to the next level. For machines fitted with the Hitachi on board oil monitoring system, the Hydraulic and Engine oil condition will be continuously analysed during machine operation and will detect changes against objective data. Where the oil condition is outside system parameters the ConSite system will send an alert to the customer and Hitachi service centre.

ConSite will then be able to provide a comprehensive reporting system for routine physical sampling of all machine oil compartments. Samples will then be sent to an ALS Laboratory where results will be uploaded to the Global e-Service database. Oil results outside safe parameters are then emailed to the customer, or alternatively customers can log on to their owners site in E-Service and analyse the reports there. Providing customers with all the important machine information in one convenient site.

Born in England and starting out with Blackwood Limited, as a Plant Mechanic apprentice he served a five year apprenticeship working across fields such as chassis, welding, fuel pump, engine, electrical and transmission bay. He specialised in Allison transmission overhauls, carrying out the first 8000 series overhaul in the United Kingdom.

Robbie’s move to Australia in 1970, provided him with work opportunities at locations such as Kakadu, Groote, Melville Island, Gove and Alice Springs just to name a few. He also looked after the Western Australia Kimberly District where he spent many months at the Ord River project. Notably, he witnessed the largest non-atomic blast where the material was eventually used for the wall.

Robbie's Retirement farewell held at the HCA Perth branch.

Robbie continued onto Goldsworthy, which was one of the first Iron Ore Mines in the country. His career then took off in the pacific, where he started in Lae in September 1973 working on Terex TS14 Allison transmissions and landing barge engines, Twin Grey Marine with Twin disc gearboxes. After six months he was promoted to leading hand and then Foreman after twelve months. Two years later, he was promoted to service manager and in 1980 to the position of Lae Branch Manager.

“I travelled extensively throughout PNG, all the outlying islands including Bougainville. Never once did the natives cause me any trouble. I also spent time in the Solomon Island’s (Santa Cruz), where I stayed in PNG for approximately nine years. Blackwood Hodge decided to close the PNG operations in 1982. Fortunately for me, I was appointed Branch Manager of Muswellbrook,” said Robbie during his recent retirement speech at the Hitachi Perth branch.

Throughout his career, he also assisted the Revesby branch operation’s as Customer Service Manager during 1988 - 1992 before returning to Muswellbrook again in 1992 when the mining industry started a growth phase. At this time HCA had also acquired the Letourneau franchise. In January 2004, David Harvey appointed Robbie as the Operations Manager for Perth Branch and then to the position of General Manager-Western Region with over 200 staff members under his wing. A truly impressive career working in five different countries, almost every state in Australia and more than eleven company cars!

Robbie’s last words at HCA:

“In my 53 years with the company, Perth has been the longest that I have stayed at, a total of 13 years. I wouldn’t say that it’s been the easiest of all the jobs but it has been the most enjoyable and just as challenging. I have met and made great friends with Eric, Tony, Doug and Peter to name a few.

During my time with the company, there have been approximately 17 major franchises, Hitachi, Bell, John Deere, Euclid, Marion, Gradall, Terex, Massey Ferguson, P&H, Tadano, Dickinson, Kobelco, DremCo, LeTourneau, Dynapac, Cummins and JCB.

I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank David, Charles, Kitai, Ray and Gil and my management team for their support, I’m particularly grateful to David Harvey who has been instrumental in my progression for many years.

Now that the next stage of my life is upon me, which I’m sure will be a major change. I’m looking forward to be spending more time with my beautiful wife Margaret and hopefully putting back into the community. I have more than a couple of projects underway, which I’m sure will keep me busy and out of trouble.”

Robbie William’s warm retirement farewell was recently celebrated with staff at the HCA Perth facility, his loyalty to HCA and the people who surrounded him is not a only a credit to his family but the boy who left England all those years ago.

Another big year down from Hitachi entering the City2Surf to raise much needed funds for our beloved charity The Humpty Dumpty Foundation. This year, saw 61 runners participating across the Hitachi Group companies including Hitachi Limited, Hitachi Data Systems, HCA and some from the Global Mining team in Brisbane.

Employees from Hitachi pre run! A credit to the business and a well-earned achievement

They tackled the gruelling 14km fun run from the city centre to Bondi Beach, in the name of a good cause.

Over $12,800 was raised which allowed Humpty Dumpty to purchase a Jaundice Detector valued at $4780 for the Royal Hospital for Women NSW. This device is used on a daily basis to check all babies for jaundice (yellowing of the skin). It’s used to help clinicians determine the jaundice levels through the skin without harming the baby. If jaundice is left untreated there is a possibility of cerebral palsy, deafness and/or brain damage.

The second piece of equipment, was a Connex Spot Monitor $4910 for Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick NSW totalling value of $9690. The Monitor provides vital signs measurement including blood pressure, spot checking, interval monitoring and custom scoring across paediatric patients. It enables a more accurate assessment to ensure the most appropriate treatment is provided for each child, giving them the very best chance of recovery. Two extremely important pieces of equipment to care for young ones in hospital.

The remaining amount donated will go into Humpty's Special Projects fund to assist them in the future.

Thank you to Team Hitachi and all their followers, without your support this could have not been possible.

In support of hospital visits and vital medical equipment donations, HCA is also driving fundraising efforts regularly throughout the year at various industry tradeshows and exhibitions to continue the ongoing support.

The premier construction event is committed to bringing together the largest range of earthmoving machinery, attachments, Agricultural machinery, trucks and mowing equipment to Western Sydney. This family-friendly show is managed by representatives of the Australian earthmoving equipment industry with the aim to help construction contractors keep up to date with all the latest technologies in the industry.

The event proved a fantastic opportunity for HCA and the Sydney branch to showcase a range of innovative Hitachi products. This year’s exhibit showcased the Hitachi mini excavator range; ZX17U-5, ZX26U-5, ZX33U-5, ZX38U-5, ZX48U-5, ZX55U-5 and ZX65USB-5 along with the ZX290LC-5 mid-sized excavator and ZW140-5 wheel loader.

HCA proved a prominent exhibitor at the show with an impressive stand and machine showcase.

As a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, a donation box for the Humpty Dumpty Foundation was positioned inside the marquee to help raise much needed funds in exchange for a stubby cooler or promotional cap. In total, over $360 was raised over the three consecutive days.

After meeting with possible buyers and creating a number of leads throughout the show, the Sydney sales team envisage they will gain sales from this event.

"Diesel Dirt & Turf was an excellent show for HCA with a huge attraction in numbers and the organisation was well executed and thought out. It was a great opportunity to engage with customers face to face, with a number of genuine sales leads collected during the three day exhibit," said Brennan Garbutt, HCA’s NSW Sales Manager.

Construction Sales Carene Chong interviewed HCA’s NSW Sales Representative Adam Scully on the Hitachi 1.7 tonne mini excavator on show at the expo, the full video can viewed here: Hitachi 1.7 tonne excavator.
