It was an eventful day at the track with a large spread of Mediterranean barbeque and drinks provided inside the Spinozzi marquee for all Hitachi and Spinozzi visitors to enjoy. There was a great turn out from Hitachi staff and customers who brought along friends and family members to enjoy the event, one customer quoting that the ‘Spinozzi event was worth the several hours drive while another customer felt like a ‘VIP and will attend upcoming Spinozzi events in the future’.

Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia (HCA) Pty Ltd had two machines on display, the ZX17U-5 mini excavator was parked at the Spinozzi marquee and the ZW370-5 wheel loader positioned up on the hill to the side of the trackside in prime view. Both machines made great photo opportunities for passers-by and achieved brand awareness and recognition of the Hitachi construction brand.

The Spinozzi brothers behind the team; Emilio and Adamo have been competing in drag racing since 2010 with no signs of slowing down. Next year is set to be a big year for the Spinozzi team with five 400 Thunder professional series events in the first half of the year! HCA wishes them all the best in the future runs.

These absolute champions rode 200km over two days from Perth to Mandurah and back, with each rider raising over $2500 each for the cause.

In addition to this money, Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia has committed $50,000 to the cause, with the fundraising total reaching over $4,886,400! All money raised goes towards cancer research at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research in Perth, one of the nation’s leading adult medical research centres.

The riders from team ‘Hitachi’ included: Kathryn Lynam from Perth branch, Brett Miles, Kris Herrmann and Michael Doecke from HCA Mining Sales and Terry Daniels, the father of staff member in Perth.

This ride, in addition to the donation from HCA was significant for all involved. Research from the Harry Perkins Institute had a hand in saving Kathryn’s mums life. In fact when asked to raise their hands if they had been or were currently being affected by cancer, almost 100% of participants raised their hands. Kathryn spoke of the impact HCA’s support had on herself and those who are close to her.

“I can’t express strongly enough how the donation from Hitachi and all those who supported us has made us feel. When we are struggling through the intense endurance of the ride, both emotionally and physically – we remember those who have struggled through their journey of cancer and those who will – if we can help by riding and raising money, then we should. Every day we should live in an action of kindness.”

“It was a very inspirational time to be wearing the Hitachi attire – I feel so proud to work for a company that has helped for many years - and I’m sure will for years to come - one of the worthiest causes I know.” Said Administration Manager, Kathryn Lynam. If you’d like to learn more about the ride, or would like to donate please visit: www.cancer200.org.au.

The Humpty Dumpty Foundation Balmoral Burn originated as a thank you to the Royal North Shore Hospital from former Wallaby captain Phil Kearns AM, after his son Finn received emergency care for suspected meningococcal. Now in its 19th year, the infamous annual community fun run up Awaba Street in Balmoral attracts thousands of individuals who partake or spectate each year. Participants conquer the 420m incline in various age category races, corporate, family and even pet races. This year the event has raised over two million dollars for The Humpty Dumpty Foundation.

Humpty Dumpty hosted a Sponsor’s Dinner on the Friday evening prior to the event, where HCA invited some suppliers to join in celebrating and experiencing the great work of the Humpty Dumpty Foundation. In attendance were a few esteemed guests including TV presenter and commonwealth medallist Johanna Griggs. At the event HCA purchased a Jaundice detector for the Mercy Hospital for Women in Heidelberg Victoria, to be used in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

The rivalry between Revesby and Sydney CSG branches continued this year with a team from each branch entering into the Corporate Relay: Humpy’s Dash. Other companies who took part included our friends at Hitachi Ltd., Coates Hire, Deloitte, LJ Hooker and more. There were some great results this time around, improving on last year’s 9th (1:23) and 15th (1:34) to grab the 4th and 11th positions. The Revesby team came in at 1:16 (a split second from 3rd) after leading for the start of the race and Sydney CSG came in soon after at 1:26. The race was followed by a lunch for Humpy’s corporate sponsors which was more than enough to compensate for the pain endured. A big thanks to all those who got involved and we look forward to participating next year’s event.

HCA steep hill warriors.

It was an exciting day at the track, with a Spinozzi marquee trackside, where visitors could look at the car, chat with the team and enjoy a BBQ.

Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia (HCA) had a ZX17U-5 mini excavator on display at the Spinozzi marquee as well as a ZW370-5 wheel loader located up on the hill near the stands, both made for great photo opportunities for passers-by. There was a great turn-out from corporate guests from HCA including customers, clients and staff members all showing up to support the team on the day.

The Terra Civil Hitachi Chevelle ended up running 6.2 seconds on the night with engine trouble making it their last event of the season. Emilio Spinozzi closed out the 400 Thunder Professional series at 5th place overall with 274 points. As the 2018-2019 season has now wrapped up, HCA looks forward to continuing our support for the Spinozzi Racing team and wish them all the best for future races.

Another big year down from Hitachi entering the City2Surf to raise much needed funds for our beloved charity The Humpty Dumpty Foundation. This year, saw 61 runners participating across the Hitachi Group companies including Hitachi Limited, Hitachi Data Systems, Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia Pty Ltd (HCA) and some from the Global Mining team in Brisbane.

They tackled the gruelling 14km fun run from the city centre to Bondi Beach, in the name of a good cause.

Just over $12,000 was raised for the Humpty Dumpty Foundation which will see four pieces of life-saving medical equipment being purchased for hospitals in Sydney, NSW. Valued at $5,160, a 950T Humidifier will go to the Royal North Shore Hospital in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit. The Humidifiers provide heated and humidified air during respiratory support. Without this support, babies are at risk of infection and breathing becomes difficult for them as their airways become dry, blocked with secretions and damaged due to cold air being delivered. This will prolong their stay in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit and their developmental outcomes may be compromised.

The second piece of equipment, is an Alaris Pump with pressure monitoring valued at $3,630 going to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in the Newborn Care Unit. This syringe pump allows insulin and antibiotics to be accurately delivered to babies and children in extremely small doses, helping those who might otherwise suffer fluid overload. Its digital format stores a drug library and will minimise any potential for human error. The pressure monitoring system improves early detection of blockages which is vital when administering drugs.

We also have the Neopuff Resuscitation Devices valued at $2,190 going into the Newborn Care Unit. This equipment provides life-saving resuscitation and ongoing ventilation assistance to infants using up-to-date, user friendly technology. It will be used on a daily basis and can be moved to the bedside of each baby or young child at risk.

Finally, a RAD-5 Pulse Oximeter with sensor valued at $1,760 will be donated to the Bankstown/Lidcombe Hospital going into the Women’s and Children’s Services Unit. This allows hospitals to accurately measure a pulse rate, oxygen saturation and blood flow which is essential in assessing the current status and treatment implications for paediatric patients. The RAD-5 (handheld) allows nurses to record arterial oxygen levels accurately and efficiently and quickly track any changes.

A big year in equipment donation thanks to the efforts of Team Hitachi and all their followers, without your support this could have not been possible. If you’d like to find out more information about next year’s run, or even enter your details to join the race - you can visit www.city2surf.com.au/entry-details.

In support of hospital visits and vital medical equipment donations, HCA is also driving fundraising efforts regularly throughout the year at various industry tradeshows and exhibitions to continue the ongoing support.

The brothers behind the team, Emilio and Adamo Spinozzi have been competing in Pro Stock racing since 2010 and now changing class to Pro Slammer don’t show any sign of turning it in!

Contesting their first Pro Slammer competition event in their new Chevrolet Chevelle as part of Gulf Western Oil Nitro Thunder, Spinozzi clicked on two win lights from three rounds of racing and set a new personal best time. The highlights didn't come easy however, with the heavy workload between rounds beginning from the very first practice session.

“Our morning run was our best of the event as we got the car off the start line and ran through for a 6.024, our quickest pass yet,” Emilio said.

“But the action started in the braking area as I struggled to pull up the car. I had the chutes out but I went past Geoff Gradden in the other lane like he was standing still. We looked into our parachutes and found most other teams were using a larger size, so Paul Mouhayet was kind enough to let us borrow some bigger chutes for the rest of the event, which gave me a lot more confidence as a driver.

Spinozzi took on 12-times national champion John Zappia in round one, with Zappia's 5.713 covering a valiant 6.179 from Spinozzi’s Chevelle.

“It was pretty awesome to be able to race against John Zappia in the first round, one of the legends of the sport,” he said. “We weren't expecting much and we had to pedal (get on and off the throttle) but we were right there if anything happened to Zap.”

The second round saw a fresh highlight as Spinozzi won his first Pro Slammer round, getting by Ben Bray in a tough 7.245 to 7.959 race.

“I think I had to pedal the car on nearly every pass and against Ben it took two goes at the throttle and some short shifting just to get down the track,” Emilio said. “But the car did eventually settle and we ran through for our first win, which was a great boost for the Spinozzi pit crew.”

In the final round against Peter Blake, Spinozzi again found a way down the cold race track with a 6.200 second victory. But the run almost didn't happen at all as the team found a cracked header pipe after warming up the car.

“I found myself running around the pits looking for welders and helmets shortly before we were due out,” Spinozzi said. “Then I was getting strapped into the car in the pits while the boys were still bolting the pipes back on. It was certainly a reminder that we were back in a racing environment, where the clock is ticking.”

Crew chief Michael Marriott said he was pleased with the progress but felt the Spinozzi Racing Chevelle was yet to show its full potential. “There were plenty of steps forward and some good gains but there are some big changes still to make,” he said.

“These cars are all about getting the correct wheel speed early in the run and I feel we have worked out the first hit of the throttle, so now we have to focus on the 60 to 80 feet zone. The car itself, built by SCF Race Cars, has been faultless and handles and drives really well. It does everything you ask it to do. Emilio has proven himself as a good driver and I think even the 6.02 is not indicative of this car.”

The team welcomed corporate guests from Hitachi Construction Machinery across the weekend, with customers and clients joining the race team for the excitement of Gulf Western Oil Nitro Thunder.

Brennan Garbutt, Hitachi’s NSW Sales Manager says ‘it proved to not only be a great opportunity to get behind one of our long-standing customers but to also share the excitement with a network of other businesses within NSW.’

Spinozzi said the team is planning on attending the Winternationals in Queensland in June, followed by a stint in Darwin.

HCA would like to congratulate the Spinozzi Racing team on their achievements to date and extends its support to Emilio and Adamo Spinozzi for their future motorsport events.

At Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia Pty Ltd (HCA), we recognise and proudly take great measures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of people at work. To also minimise environmental burden as well as supporting kids in hospital via the Humpty Dumpty Foundation with a minimum of $100,000 planned to be donated in medical equipment per annum for the next three years.

The support provided to the Humpty Dumpty Foundation has HCA regularly participating in charity initiatives to continue raising much needed funds for the cause.

Since 2015, HCA have also supported the Roy Hill Community Foundation, a charity that is now taking significant shape to improve the lives of the indigenous community in the Pilbara region. As a Gold sponsor our commitment is $25,000 per year through to 2019.

In addition during 2018, HCA will introduce three health focus campaigns in an effort to build healthier communities through awareness and support. HCA look forward to supporting three key charities: Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, Beyond Blue and the Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation.

These foundations work to minimise three of the population’s largest killers; through medical research and support programs for those affected. Whilst not all cases can be cured, awareness and early intervention can prevent loss of lives.

HCA has committed to sponsoring a minimum of $10,000 to each of these charities in an effort to support research funding and support programs. HCA employees will have the opportunity to make donations at their local branch BBQ’s commemorating the awareness campaigns, of which HCA will match all contributions dollar for dollar.

HCA believes that building a culture of speaking up, sharing information, concerns and being supported by our peers is a critical element of a safe and healthy work and family environment.

We understand that some within HCA may have been affected directly or connected to family or friends that have endured one of these illnesses. We hope that all employees will take part in these activities in some way and that you each embrace and support these campaigns as they are rolled out during the year – it’s as simple as getting involved at the BBQ’s or simply sharing in the vital information to help build a healthier community.

Teams from HCA and Hitachi Limited before competing in the 2017 Balmoral Burn

HCA would like to congratulate the Sydney branch on their brilliant effort during the run, crossing the line in 1 min 23 sec. In a field of 22 teams, they came in at 7th place. HCA’s head office team, crossed the finish line just 4 seconds after, achieving 11th place overall.

It was also great to see the group companies come together, with Hitachi Limited Australia also participating in the race day, completing their relay in 2 hours and 3 seconds.

Thank you again to our teams for their energy, courage and burning muscles on the epic uphill run, and for proudly representing HCA in support of The Humpty Dumpty Foundation.

Our donation efforts don’t stop there, with a number of hospital visits recorded and more to come in the coming months.

“It is a privilege for our company to be in a position to support the foundation and involve our employees with hospital visits,” says David Harvey, Managing Director at HCA.

Spinozzi Racing is an Australian drag racing partnership between brothers Emilio and Adamo Spinozzi. They have been competing in Pro Stock racing since 2010, with Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia (HCA) coming on board as a financial sponsor in 2011.

“Our biggest achievements for 2014 included being runner-up at the 2014 X Champs and Australia’s quickest 60 footing Pro Stock car,” says team owner Emilio Spinozzi.

“It was the first time that our Terra Civil, Hitachi Camaro Pro Stocker had gone past the first round in the X Champs, so we were not expecting it at all, but things just seemed to go our way.”

At the end of 2014, Spinozzi re-signed their Crew Chief, Michael Marriot, for the next 18 months. This was a big boost for the team after such a triumphant season.

“Michael has been the turnaround for the team for the season so far. He has been able to put fast consistent runs down and improve our times at nearly every outing,” Emilio says.

“The 2015 season has already seen us with the second fastest Pro Stock car in the country and the fastest small block naturally aspirated Chev in the world.”

Crew Chief Michael says the recent development in their engine and chassis programs is seeing the team set new personal bests at nearly every event.

“The team are now in a highly competitive position and are considered to be one of the leading contenders in the 2015 / 2016 Pro Stock championship season, which begins at Adelaide International Raceway this October,” Michael says.

Most recently, Spinozzi competed at the Fuchs Winternationals at Willowbank Raceway in Queensland in early June, posting their quickest times to date and qualifying second overall at the event.

HCA would like to congratulate the Spinozzi Racing team on their achievements to date and extends its support to Emilio and Adamo Spinozzi for their future motorsport events.

A humidifier for premature babies was delivered to the newly opened neonatal ward at Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital. This piece of equipment adds heat and moisture to the air for newborns who need respiratory support, and was purchased with the funds raised by “Team Hitachi” from the City 2 Surf in 2014.

Ipswich Hospital in Queensland received a baby warming bed, which allows premature babies to maintain warmth after they are moved from an incubator.

A patient monitor was also delivered to King Edward Memorial Hospital in Perth. The monitor is used to measure a baby’s vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation levels. The small size and portability of the monitor allows the baby to be out of their crib with their parents while being continually monitored.

In addition, Tom Price Hospital in WA received a resuscitation device which can be used in emergency births in remote areas that have limited access to hospitals.

The Humpty Dumpty Foundation is also in discussion with the WA Health Minister to get regional hospitals onboard and lodge their “wish list” for pieces of medical equipment with the Humpty Dumpty Foundation so that Hitachi can continue to donate and support the community in Kalgoorlie.

Hitachi will continue to donate these vital pieces of equipment across our branch communities in support of families and friends of the Hitachi community.

RACECAR CHAMP TAKES FIRST NATIONAL CROWN

Drag racing star, Kyle Putland has continued his great run of success with several titles over the past season, including the Motorplex SuperComp Vice-Track Championship and the 2014 Winternationals title – his first nationals win.

“We’ve had a phenomenal season,” Kyle said. “We’ve developed this naturally aspirated car to become the quickest in the country and there’s no way we could have done that without our sponsors Hitachi, Harness Master, SupaFit Seat Covers, Professionals Stirling Clark and Orange Australia.”

Putland had anything but an easy entry into the Winternationals finals, starting his campaign by destroying two transmissions in qualifying rounds.

“It’s one of those crazy things you can’t explain. The “O” ring on the shift tower was faulty which meant losing shift pressure to apply the clutch and totally destroying the inside of the gearbox. We didn’t work out what was causing it until it happened again in the last qualifier, so we were behind before we started. We gave it absolutely everything in the final knowing we had nothing to lose and had a heap of new fans barracking for us.”

It had been a different story at the Pro Showdown at the Perth Motorplex in April, where the Harness Master Racing team started the event as fastest qualifiers with 7/10ths of a second under the national record for A/Altered.

Despite having to settle for the title of vice-champion after a heartbreaking disqualification in the final round where he left the line fifteen thousandths of a second before the green light Putland remained upbeat about what the team had achieved throughout the season.

In their first racing appearance on the East Coast, the Harness Master Racing team went on to battle it out at Sydney Dragway’s Nitro Champs. In the lead up to the event, Putland and his team entered the X Champs with the quickest naturally aspirated racecar.

HUMPTY DUMPTY FOUNDATION

Whether it’s the delivery of a Jaundice Meter to Kingaroy Hospital, or a Youth Medical Cart to Bunbury Hospital, Hitachi is committed to supporting Humpty Dumpty’s activities as they strive to save the lives of children across Australia.

The first hospital visit for 2014 started off at Bunbury Hospital surrounding the delivery of a Youth Medical Cart to the hospital’s Special Care Nursery.

The Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital has received a Symphony Breast Pump and a fibre optic sensor cable, devices that play an integral role in the treatment of newborns.

Additionally, a Symphony Breast Pump also found a new home at the Royal Darwin Hospital, as well as a Connex Vital Signs Monitor donated to Muswellbrook Hospital.

In support of hospital visits and vital medical equipment donations, Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia is also driving fundraising efforts at industry tradeshows and exhibitions, as well as company participation in national events such as the Sydney City2Surf and Balmoral Burn.

Featured events the team compete in include the ANDRA Pro Series and National Championship.

Continued testing and race preparation has seen the team make specific modifications to the drag car, including tuning clutch adjustments and refinement of the chassis. The team’s dedicated approach has reflected positively on their personal best race times, and has fuelled their ambition to achieve the elusive first 6.0 second run in future competitions.

In the recent ANDRA Pro Series and National Championship, Spinozzi Racing qualified fifth fastest overall out of a field of twenty competitors with a 7.079 second run and top speed of 193mph. However, the elimination round saw the team achieve their fastest run in the competition with a 7.048 second run, just short of the 7.030 Sydney Dragway track record and national record of 7.022 seconds.

HCA would like to congratulate the Spinozzi Racing team on their achievements to date and extends its support to Emilio and Adamo Spinozzi in their future motorsport events.

As a Gold Sponsor of the Roads Australia 2012 Roads Summit, Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia (HCA) is proud of its new affiliation with Roads Australia. Held at Sydney’s Doltone House on May 30th and 31st, the event provided an exclusive opportunity to network with key delegates from over eighty blue chip civil and construction companies and gain valuable insight from high profile speakers. These included Hon Duncan Gay, NSW Minister for Roads and Ports, and Ben Guy, Managing Director of Urban Circus. The conference highlighted a number of critical industry issues based on the theme of “Roads and Transport of the Future”, which proved invaluable to HCA and fellow delegates.

Hitachi Races to the Top

Over the past years, Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia (HCA) has sponsored the HITracing Development Team, which has achieved great success in some of Australia’s largest national cycling events.

HITracing Manager, Robert Godson, said the aim of the HITracing team is to support and mentor young riders, providing them with a pathway in a sport which continues to grow at a significant rate in Australia.

“Now in its eighth season, the continued support we have received from HCA has helped produce professional cyclists, some of which are riding in European-based teams and major Australian cycling teams,” he said.

“We have seen riders win on the road as well as on the Velodrome and mountain bikes, whilst balancing challenging work and education commitments. A number of riders have won major Australian stage races and have also claimed gold medals and podium finishes across various state-wide championships,” said Rob.

The HITracing Development Team encourages riders to place their education as first priority followed by sport. It focuses on developing riders for the future and providing them with the tools required to pursue success in the sport of cycling.

HCA is proud to have contributed to fostering a positive culture and environment that has facilitated the growth of sporting talent among young cyclists. HCA wishes the dedicated team of cyclists a successful 2013 season.

Hitachi Partners with Humpty

HCA is excited to announce its new partnership with the Humpty Dumpty Foundation.

HCA has committed to donate $200,000 over two years to help purchase vital children’s medical equipment for hospitals across Australia.

Founded by Executive Chairman Paul Francis in 1996, the Humpty Dumpty Foundation purchases life-saving medical equipment for Neonatal Units and Paediatric Wards in hospitals and health service centres.

Today, the Humpty Dumpty Foundation delivers equipment to 200 hospitals throughout Australia.

HCA is privileged to be in a position to be able to support foundations like Humpty. To-date, 20 pieces of medical equipment have been purchased and delivered to a number of hospitals in proximity to HCA branch facilities. Some of these regions include Adelaide, Emerald, Kingaroy, Launceston, Maitland, Melbourne, Newcastle, Perth, Port Hedland, Tom Price, Sydney, Townsville and Whyalla.

Humpty visits are currently underway to officially recognise the delivery of equipment to hospitals, as well as the dedicated and valuable work by medical professionals on the frontline. It is also proving a unique opportunity for HCA staff to see how this equipment is saving children’s lives.

The continued contribution to hospitals will be in alignment with the Humpty Dumpty Foundation’s vision to help provide children with the best medical treatment and care.

Record Breaking Speed

Maida Vale drag racer Kyle Putland reached an astonishing speed of 320km/h in 6.61 seconds to claim the Australian record for a naturally aspirated car.

The majority of motor vehicles incorporate a naturally aspirated engine, which refers to an engine that is neither power enhanced by a turbocharger or supercharger.

Not only did Kyle break the Australian record at the Perth Motorplex, he also became the second fastest hard tail A/A altered drag racer in the world.

The car was built in New Jersey by 11-time US National Hot Rod Association champion Bob Rossi.

“The car weighs 790kg with 1350 horsepower, so it’s a light car with plenty of power and proven combinations from Bob’s own experience,” said Kyle.

As the driver of Australia’s fastest naturally aspirated car, Kyle has always been driven to achieve international success in the sport.

“My inspiration was to achieve something not many other people outside the United States had done – go fast with a naturally aspirated engine,” he said.

Kyle also mentioned that there are improvements to be made to the car which will boost its potential even further.

“We’ve taken it apart and sent the engine and some parts away for a rebuild and updates.

“It has been a truly amazing season and we have much bigger and better things planned for next year.”

Humpty Dumpty

The partnership between Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia (HCA) and the Humpty Dumpty Foundation has continued to strengthen in 2013. To-date, HCA has delivered 14 pieces of lifesaving medical equipment to hospitals nationally with a value in excess of $80,000.

Humpty Dumpty has touched the hearts of many HCA employees, many of which having an emotional connection through personal experiences.

As part of an ongoing commitment to the Foundation, HCA employees have showed their support wherever possible – from sporting events through to hospital visits.

The first major Humpty event for 2013 kicked off with the annual Balmoral Burn – a 420m sprint up Mosman’s notoriously steep Awaba Street. HCA sponsored two corporate teams, both of which tackled the wild weather and challenging uphill climb.

In May, the Humpty team ventured to Emerald in Queensland’s Central Highlands. Joined by Humpty’s Ambassador, Ray Martin, the team visited Emerald Hospital in recognition of a Panda Warmer donated by HCA to the hospital’s emergency department.

The team also visited HCA’s Emerald facility, which provided an opportunity to get up close to some of the company’s heavy earthmoving machinery.

A memorable hospital visit to Adelaide’s Women’s and Children’s Hospital in July saw HCA present an MP30 Intellivue Cardio Respirator Monitor to the hospital’s Neonatology Ward.

Several HCA employees also participated in Team Humpty in this years’ City2Surf – the world’s largest run covering a 14km stretch from Sydney’s Hyde Park to the picturesque Bondi Beach. Team members helped raise money for multiple charities, including that of Humpty.

HCA values its ongoing relationship with Humpty Dumpty. With more hospital visits scheduled in the near future, HCA is excited about delivering more medical equipment in support of Humpty’s commitment to saving lives.
