Deere Fleet Hits The Road
Eleven John Deere 770GP graders delivered to Roads and Maritime Services
Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia (HCA) is strengthening its business relationship and continuing its support of the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS – previously known as the RTA) state-wide project requirements.
HCA has successfully negotiated a long-term contract for the initial supply of eleven John Deere 770GP motor graders with an inclusion of a fully maintained Service Level Agreement for three years covered by a fully Operational Lease Arrangement. This addition to the RMS fleet of construction machinery demonstrates its confidence in HCA’s ability to support its major project contracts in accordance with RMS regional requirements.
The fleet of graders will be delivered to various regional areas within New South Wales including Dubbo, Broken Hill, Narrabri, Narrandera, and Bowenfels (Lithgow). According to Keith Bailey, Government Business Manager for HCA,
“A one week field evaluation in Dubbo by NSW RMS Management, inspectors, OH&S, operators and technical staff confirmed the John Deere graders excellent performance capabilities, superior safety features, service accessibility and best in class operator station.”
These features played a key role in RMS’ decision to choose the John Deere 770GP. Also of importance was the graders electrohydraulic fingertip controls combined with a steering wheel and the ‘Plug and Play’ feature for easy adaption of Topcon and Trimble laser systems.
The graders have been painted in the RMS orange and have been equipped with additional customised accessories to suit RMS regional requirements. These include front-mounted dozer blades, a front-mounted winch-activated spare wheel, tyre carriers and heated external mirrors for enhanced visibility in cold weather.
The John Deere 770GP showcases the latest in innovative safety features and service accessibility. The integration of high-intensity halogen lights, ROPS and FOPS structures designed to protect operators ensures the safest grader experience.
Incorporating a Park Start feature, which prevents the engine from being started unless the transmission shift control is in the brake position, the park brake automatically engages whenever the engine stops. In addition, the Park Brake is easily engaged simply by moving the transmission shift control to the park brake position.
Unsurpassed service accessibility provides minimised maintenance and low daily operating costs.
Key features include a unique easy-access hydraulic, transmission and differential filter bank, as well as ground-level fuelling and fast-fill option for enhanced productivity.
John Deere’s exclusive cooling package features swing-out coolers and a hinged rear fan, providing wide-open access for simplified cleaning. The easy-to-navigate LCD monitor provides diagnostic information and offers troubleshooting solutions to decrease downtime.
An important component of the RMS contract was HCA’s ability to perform high level operator and technical training to RMS staff. This was conducted in Dubbo and Broken Hill by Laurie Wright from John Deere and included both classroom and practical activities.
