Major Accounts Manager – South Australia

Tell us about your career path at Hitachi and the roles you have held.

I started with Hitachi back in 2000 as an Apprentice Mechanic and worked my way through different positions in the Service Department including ‘Reman’ (remanufactured components mechanic) and Field Service before becoming a Customer Support Representative in 2008. During this time, I gained great product knowledge and internal systems experience, which prepared me to take on my next role in 2010 as Construction Equipment Sales Representative. Here I developed skills in response, communication and support, which is critical in meeting the business needs of our customers. In October 2022, I was appointed to the role of Major Account Manager for South Australia. Maintaining long term relationships with customers and establishing new relationships with new clients has greatly helped in my career path.

What do you enjoy about being a Major Account Manager?

Manage National Accounts in Quarry & Construction sector. Also manage Key Local Accounts within South Australia that aren’t listed as National. Providing plant solutions to our national accounts in quarry and construction as well as key local accounts within South Australia. I enjoy chasing new business, engaging with new customers and providing solutions for their business. I appreciate supporting a premium product with the team in the Adelaide Branch and seeing how the customers also respect and love the Hitachi brand.

What has helped you achieve your success?

Since the start of my journey, I had a Service Manager who was a great mentor. He was supportive and rewarded hard work and discipline, which gave me the opportunity to grow my career within the business. I also had a good mentor in the early part of my Sales career which also drove me to strive for success. Working together as a team and establishing relationships internally was just as important as external relationships.
Personally, I like to set high goals whether it’s with sport, family life or work. Persistence, hard work and attention to detail is a passion and sometimes I can be a bit OCD on certain things in order to achieve great results. It is also pleasing to resolve issues for clients and to be part of a solution that keeps customers happy and overall, very satisfying being part of a positive team effort.

Does your career provide a good sense of balance and fulfillment?

In my various roles I have been fortunate to travel regionally and nationally. There is a good work-life balance and the management team in Adelaide provide flexibility which enables me to be involved with my kids’ school events. IT has its challenges but provides me with a great sense of fulfillment. Individual achievement awards are great, but receiving a branch award is better, as I believe the Service and Parts sell the next lot of machines. There’s great value in representing a great brand.

Do you feel assured you have a prosperous future at Hitachi?

There is plenty of support, training and refresher courses available to keep up my skills so that I can confidently serve our customers. I am able to keep up to date with new products and have all the resources to keep me successful in my role.

What advice would you give to others who may be considered a career with Hitachi?

Be a risk taker and you’ll be surprised of the results when you push yourself outside of your comfort zone. Be open to learning and providing others encouragement towards personal growth.

If you were to do it all again, would you follow a similar path?

100% YES! It is very rewarding working for a reputable premium brand within the market with so many opportunities.

From Trade Assistant to Apprentice Plant Mechanic 👏

At our Wacol branch, Nick is stepping into the next chapter of his journey.

Starting out as a Trade Assistant, Nick has now taken the leap into an Apprentice Plant Mechanic role - bringing hands-on experience, a strong work ethic, and a clear focus on safety.

For Nick, safety isn’t just a checklist. It’s about looking out for your team, doing the job properly, and making sure everyone goes home the way they arrived.

And he’s just getting started.

Nick is looking forward to getting up close with our mining equipment and continuing to build his skills alongside the team.

The future’s looking solid. 💪

Future legends loading… 👷‍♂️👷‍♀️🔥

Our Apprentices Induction Week was the perfect mix of learning, connection, and a bit of healthy competition.

From hands-on training with some of our best people, getting up close with our machinery, and insights from senior leaders — to go-karting (yes, there was a trophy 🏆), bowling, putt putt, laser tag, and a good old BBQ — it was all about setting our apprentices up for success while having some fun along the way.

We’re proud to welcome the next generation of talent to Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia and can’t wait to see where their journey takes them.

Welcome to the team 👏
