SEYCHELL CONSTRUCTIONS

December 2019

In the vast realms of the construction industry, gas installation is considered a niche market. It’s only natural for a company who specialises in something so specific are highly passionate about what they do. Seychell Constructions are the epitome of what it means to be an ardent and specialised business – essentially just doing what they do best.

Seychell Constructions was established in 1985 by Emanuel Seychell, who already had extensive experience and expertise in the field of gas installation before eventually venturing out on his own. Until his retirement in 1997, Emanuel built the company into a leading service provider within the industry.

This legacy is carried on today by Tony and Darren Seychell, with 35 highly skilled team members and an extensive plant and equipment inventory, ensuring customers are provided with cost effective solutions as well as impeccable service.

Some projects that the company have recently been involved in include; the Cormack Road regulator, new Royal Adelaide Hospital, realignment for the new airport and the sea gas pipeline tie-in.

WHY SEYCHELL CONSTRUCTIONS STILL CHOOSE HITACHI

Left to right: Darren Seychell and Tony Seychell

A relationship standing the test of time

Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia (HCA) have recently celebrated 20 years of operation as a company. Before the establishment of HCA on October 1st 1999, Hitachi construction equipment was previously available to Australian customers through Marubeni Construction and Mining Equipment and previous to that, Blackwood Hodge.

Having purchased at least 25 Hitachi machines since the Blackwood Hodge days, Seychell Constructions has been dealing with HCA since the company was first established. Both companies have seen significant growth and progress over the years, with the relationship now surpassing two decades.

As the Adelaide based company developed further, they required larger equipment, along with service and support to assure the excavators were helping them get the job done to the highest standard.

“For 8 years, the company had been running 8 machines for a major project we completed between 2006 and 2014. This involved all new works from main to meter for the APA Group, in approximately 150 suburbs,” stated Managing Director Tony Seychell.

Service takes priority for Seychell

Replacing their old machines very frequently, the team’s current fleet of Hitachi includes a ZX33U-5A, ZX38U-5A, ZX85USB-5 and the latest addition, a ZX65USB-5A purchased in October of this year, aligning perfectly with HCA’s 20 year anniversary celebrations.

When asked if he had noticed any changes over the last 20 years within HCA, Tony mentioned that the services he receives from the Adelaide branch has been very dependable throughout the years. “(HCA) are consistent with suppling a great service, this shows on how long some employees have been working for the company,” he said.

Speaking of his personal preferences and perceived advantages of Hitachi over other brands, he again referenced the service provided by HCA, commenting “I personally applaud your service department highly and the efforts they go to in meeting customer expectations, it proves HCA’s strong commitment in delivery quality customer service.”

Tony credits HCA and particularly sales representative Stuart Chapman for providing exceptional service at all levels. “We’ve found HCA to be very responsive to requests from the start. From quote to delivery, nothing is too hard.”

Seychell Constructions have been able to both expand and reinforce the notion that they are a leading service provider to the gas industry in South Australia. HCA are beyond proud to have supported the team over the years and look forward to another 20 years of working together.

The Hitachi ZX360LCH-7 has landed with the team at Apex Civil Solutions, ready to get straight to work.

Built for demanding civil projects, the ZX360LCH-7 delivers the performance, durability and operator comfort that crews rely on when productivity matters most.

It’s always great seeing another Hitachi machine join the fleet of a growing civil contractor, and we’re proud to support the Apex team as they continue delivering quality projects across Queensland.

We can’t wait to see this machine in action.

This week we recognised and thanked the incredible women across our business.

From workshops and mine sites to branches and offices, the leadership, capability, energy and perspective they bring every day continues to shape the future of our company.

As Ray Kitic shares in this message, our commitment goes beyond recognition. We remain focused on strengthening the pathways and opportunities that support the growth and success of women across our organisation.
Celebrating International Women’s Day

Today we recognise International Women’s Day and celebrate the contributions of women across our business and the wider construction and mining industries.

From the workshop floor and mine sites to engineering, operations, and leadership, women continue to play an important role in shaping the future of our industry.

At Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia, we’re proud to work alongside talented women across our branches, supporting innovation, capability, and progress every day.

Happy International Women’s Day!
Six years in the Army.
Now a fourth-year apprentice in Toowoomba.

Taleisha didn’t come into the trades the traditional way. After serving in the Army, she began her apprenticeship elsewhere but felt she wasn’t getting the hands-on experience needed to properly build her skills.

That changed when she joined the team.

Today her weeks can include new builds in the workshop, site work at mines, or jobs at local quarries. She works on loaders and mining equipment, services machines, installs pumps and supports major builds — backed by formal OEM training and experienced technicians around her.

Like every apprentice, she has made mistakes. On one job she damaged a seal during installation. She reported it straight away. The team worked through what happened and how to correct it.

That is how competence is built.

Six months ago, she completed her first solo service on a customer machine. It was a small milestone, but an important one — proof of progress and trust earned.

No two days look the same. That is what she values most.

Her focus now is finishing her apprenticeship and continuing her career as a tradesperson long term.

This is what development looks like:

Experience. Accountability. Support.

And technicians who are built to last.
From Trade Assistant to Apprentice Plant Mechanic 👏

At our Wacol branch, Nick is stepping into the next chapter of his journey.

Starting out as a Trade Assistant, Nick has now taken the leap into an Apprentice Plant Mechanic role - bringing hands-on experience, a strong work ethic, and a clear focus on safety.

For Nick, safety isn’t just a checklist. It’s about looking out for your team, doing the job properly, and making sure everyone goes home the way they arrived.

And he’s just getting started.

Nick is looking forward to getting up close with our mining equipment and continuing to build his skills alongside the team.

The future’s looking solid. 💪
