Key Account Manager – Mining
What influence led you to a career in mining?
My dad has worked in the industry, therefore I always had an interest in this industry. In 2009 I had the opportunity to move from sales and business development roles in the marine industry, to join the mining and resources sector. I had qualifications in finance which has assisted in developing a career path in customer support and Key Account Management.
What personal attributes and experiences have helped you succeed?
When I am not working, I can be found at a drag racing strip racing. I was born into a mining and motor racing family, with my dad enjoying success on the race track and also in this industry. It’s not surprising I have found myself following in a similar path. My advice is set your goal path, work out “how and what it takes” to achieve and don’t give up until you have reached your goal.
What do you do as a Key Account Manager for Mining?
I sell Hitachi mining excavators and dump trucks to major mining houses and contractors across the east coast. My work involves seeking growth opportunities for fleet deployment in the coal and hard rock sectors, and provide solutions for customers to achieve their business goals. I work closely with mining assembly and regional branches to coordinate seamless transition from site assembly to commissioning of the equipment, with the aim to ensure Hitachi is the preferred equipment supplier. I really enjoy my job as no day is ever the same. It provides a great sense of achievement to win a fleet supply contract, then see the equipment operating in the field.
Do you feel that you are ‘pioneering’ in this field?
As a 5’5” pocket rocket, at first look I am far from what the average person would imagine a member of the Hitachi mining sales team to be. Sometimes I can be the only lady in the room, but this has never stopped me in the pursuit of my goals. I know I am capable to get the job completed successfully. I am passionate about this industry and was also very lucky to have fantastic mentors to help me navigate my road.
What advice would you give to others interested in a career in mining?
I encourage other women to consider careers in mining and construction. Look for opportunities and apply for roles you are interested in. Make yourself known and most importantly, show interest. Remember you are worthy of the opportunity based on your capabilities. Remind yourself that nothing is impossible – the word itself says “I’m possible”.

While NAIDOC Week has now passed, we`re proud to share how our Perth team came together to recognise and celebrate this important occasion through a meaningful cultural immersion experience.
We were honoured to welcome Brent Matters, a Noongar artist, musician and cultural educator, who shared his knowledge, stories and deep connection to Country through music, culture and conversation. Brent`s didgeridoo performances, storytelling and insights into Aboriginal traditions provided our team with a memorable opportunity to learn, reflect and deepen our understanding of First Nations culture.
Experiences like these help foster greater respect, understanding and connection, reinforcing the importance of recognising and celebrating the histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, not just during NAIDOC Week, but throughout the year.
A sincere thank you to Brent Matters for sharing his culture and knowledge with our team.
