Driven by wholesome family values and innovation, the Batchelor family name has been in the construction industry for the past fifty years. Batchelor Civil Contracting (BCC) a division of The Batchelor Construction Group (BCG) was founded in 2010 after Adam Batchelor took up the opportunity and purchased the business from his parents Rob and Jill Batchelor.
Based in Southern Tasmania; BCC is a civil, earthmoving and building construction company providing a full suite of services for the infrastructure development for private, local and state government as well as associated entities throughout Tasmania. The company’s primary focus is to always deliver ultimate customer satisfaction whilst maintaining a safe working environment for our workforce.
Starting out in 2010 with a fleet of six machines and six employees, BCC has immensely grown and proven their tough presence in the Tasmanian earthmoving industry. Over the last 12 years the company has increased their plant fleet to eighty pieces of construction machinery and expanded their workforce to seventy employees.
Director of BCC Adam Batchelor acknowledges their business success and growth to the “skill set of our operators in conjunction with premium quality equipment. Hitachi excavators dominate our earthmoving fleet as having machines that don’t have issues is what we strive for, and Hitachi can supply this”.
“I’ve driven all the major brands, the standout points of the Hitachi are operator comfort, visibility, the ease of control on final trim including having the ability to bulk out with excellent breakout force while maintaining fuel efficiency” said Shanon Long, operator of Hitachi ZX210-5 excavator which has done over 4000 hours.
The fleet of Hitachi excavators ranging from 1.7 tonne through to 87 tonne excavators are working tirelessly at the new $8.1 million Launceston City Council Waste Cell landfill. This business contract consists of over fifty thousand cubic meters of excavation, eight acres of geosynthetic liner and two millimetre HDPE plastic liner. As well as other contracts including road, subdivision developments and freshwater pipelines for aquaculture and agriculture across Tasmania.

Six years in the Army.
Now a fourth-year apprentice in Toowoomba.
Taleisha didn’t come into the trades the traditional way. After serving in the Army, she began her apprenticeship elsewhere but felt she wasn’t getting the hands-on experience needed to properly build her skills.
That changed when she joined the team.
Today her weeks can include new builds in the workshop, site work at mines, or jobs at local quarries. She works on loaders and mining equipment, services machines, installs pumps and supports major builds — backed by formal OEM training and experienced technicians around her.
Like every apprentice, she has made mistakes. On one job she damaged a seal during installation. She reported it straight away. The team worked through what happened and how to correct it.
That is how competence is built.
Six months ago, she completed her first solo service on a customer machine. It was a small milestone, but an important one — proof of progress and trust earned.
No two days look the same. That is what she values most.
Her focus now is finishing her apprenticeship and continuing her career as a tradesperson long term.
This is what development looks like:
