Eco Resource Recovery (ECORR)

As the expectations on corporate social responsibility (CSR) increases around the globe, companies are recognising the requirement to act on sustainability from how they procure raw materials, practice responsible sourcing, improve energy use in operations and reduce wasteful packaging. CSR is not only important for the community, it’s equally valuable for the company as it boosts employee satisfaction, giving them a more connected purpose to the world around them.

One company that has embraced CSR is Eco Resource Recovery (ECORR) a family owned and operated business located in Wetherill Park, New South Wales. Evolving from its civil engineering contracting roots eight years ago,  Working in the Sydney market, offering a licensed facility operating under accredited Environmentally Safe Practices.

ECORR recognises the evolving importance for sustainability and have introduced innovative resource recovery and circular economy solutions into the operation of their business. Resource recovery is where waste is used as an input material to create products as new outputs. Recovering over 99 per cent of the company’s total waste including brick, asphalt and soil wastes that are then repurposed into performance engineered road bases, aggregates, sands and stabilised products.

ECORR has achieved an incredible 99 per cent recovery rate every year from 2017 to 2021, living up to its corporate tagline ‘Yesterday’s waste is the foundation for Sydney’s tomorrow.’

‘Our custom approach of working with our clients from the design phase to help them identify circular solutions, source cost competitive recycled alternatives and realise the competitive advantage of circular thinking makes us unique in this industry’ comments ECORR’s Managing Director; Martin O’Connell.

Experiencing significant business growth since taking over the processing and operation of products themselves in 2021, ECORR have plans for further expansion with a strong pipeline of projects over the coming years. Past infrastructure projects have been on a Federal, state and local government level, along with environmental and rehabilitation projects across New South Wales.

ECORR’s performance in the recycling industry is heavily reliant on productive, efficient and robust machinery for the quick loading, screening and crushing of waste materials. ECORR have chosen Hitachi Construction Machinery (Australia) Pty Ltd (HCA) as the provider of earthmoving machinery. This is due to the tailored suite of solutions ranging from technology based solutions that monitor machine performance to technical support and a 24/7 nationwide customer support team.

In the ECORR plant fleet, there are three Hitachi ZW330-5 wheel loaders and three Hitachi ZX360LC-5 excavators and an additional ZX360LC-5 on order due for delivery mid-2022.

‘The purchase process of these machines was simple, the easy going nature and responsiveness of Barry Cahill (Hitachi Major Accounts Manager) and Adam Scully (Hitachi Sales Representative) made the process pleasant and stress-free’ adds Martin.

Similar to ECORR, HCA works on initiatives that support the environment and community with the future in mind. Through the processes developed and implemented at the Hitachi Reman facilities, currently ninety percent of used products are being refurbished back into new componentry. Last financial year, Hitachi Reman took in 5,132 tonnes of used components, disposing of only 518 tonnes of true unusable waste, which resulted in refurbishing 4,614 tonnes of materials into OEM quality components – a result we endeavour to continually improve upon.

At a local level, HCA branches are being fitted with solar power and rain water tanks where feasible, and energy efficient lighting and recycling implementations. Reducing not only cost to the customer, but waste to landfill and CO2 in the manufacturing processes.

ECORR is finalising their 2025 Sustainability strategy which includes goals that encompass Climate Active Certification, certifying products with leading sustainability schemes (Environmental Product Declaration and Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia) and a reduction in scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon neutral emissions.

The sustainability initiatives taken by both ECORR and HCA combined with community support contribute towards the United Nations sustainable Development Goals (SDG), together achieving positive outcomes for society and the environment through their day to day business operations.

❄️ Saving the Aussie ski season. One bucket at a time.

Our machines don't stop when winter arrives.

Peter, from Peter Vagne Excavation is putting his Hitachi ZX225USLC-7 to work in the Perisher Valley, loading freshly made snow to keep the slopes topped up for skiers throughout the day.

A unique job for a machine that's built to perform in every season.

Thanks for the photo, Pete!
Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia is heading to QME 2026!

Join us in Mackay from 21–23 July and experience some of the largest and most advanced mining equipment in the industry.

On display will be the impressive EX1200 mining excavator, along with an EX8000 excavator bucket, showcasing the scale, innovation and reliability that Hitachi brings to mining operations across Australia.

Whether you're looking to optimise productivity, improve efficiency, or simply get up close to world-class mining equipment, our team will be on hand to discuss the latest solutions for your operation.

Australia's highest-hour EX5600-7 has reached another significant milestone as it chases goals established by our legendary forebearer -6 models that achieved over 100,000 hrs, many of which are still operating around the world.

After more than 38,000 operating hours, the machine has undergone its first swing bearing replacement. The major component change completed safely and successfully by two dedicated crews.

The project was delivered with zero safety incidents, reflecting the planning, expertise and commitment of everyone involved throughout the change-out.

This milestone also marks 10 years since HCA’s designed and developed Elevation System first entered operation, highlighting the long-term durability and performance that continue to support mining operations across Australia.

38,000 hours.
First swing bearing replacement.
Two crews.
Zero safety incidents.

A testament to the people, planning and equipment behind one of Australia's hardest-working EX5600-7 excavators.
Stepping up its game. 👢

This Hitachi ZX85USB-7 delivered to Specialized Digging Services (SDS) (@gb_diggs) shows what precision on-site can look like when paired with an engcon rotating wrist and full attachment setup.

From heavy digging work through to fine control tasks (like picking up a boot), this machine has been configured to handle more with minimal changeover time and greater flexibility on site.
Less repositioning. Fewer support machines. Better overall efficiency where it matters most.

Because capability is not only about power. It is about control.
"Reliability means delivering for our customers, not letting them down and keeping the wheels turning."

That's how Cameron Madeira, Operations Manager at ECORR, describes the role Hitachi equipment plays in their operation.

Processing thousands of tonnes of concrete every day, ECORR relies on a fleet of Hitachi excavators and wheel loaders to tackle one of Australia's toughest working environments. From separating steel and concrete to keeping crushers fed and material moving, reliability isn't optional—it's essential.

We're proud to support ECORR as they continue their mission to be leaders in the recycling industry.

Throwback to our 2025 Construction Equipment Sales Conference - where the team got hands-on with the machines they talk about every day. 👷‍♂️💥

From walkarounds to machine demos, it was a chance for our Construction Equipment Sales Representatives to get up close with the gear, share knowledge and sharpen their understanding of the products supporting customers across Australia.

Because selling equipment is one thing. Knowing it inside and out is another. 👊
