It’s common for a career to start at an apprentice level then to progress through one of the many other career path options, including Service, Parts, Sales and administration.
Apprenticeship
HCA’s market-leading apprenticeships run in conjunction with TAFE courses and align with the Government Australian Apprentices program. The program provides apprentices with hands-on experience and training to become a Heavy Vehicle Mobile Equipment (HVME) Mechanic and Automotive Electrician.
The practical apprentice programs are ideal for interested school students or mature age students and are available at all major HCA branches across Australia, in every state and territory.
Training
The training and education strategy focuses on guiding career pathways and development to suit our staff’s needs and the needs of the business.
Course offerings include qualifications and career path options for Service, Parts, Sales and Administrative roles, with topical areas including management, supervision, technical, customer service, and business systems compliance.

HCA believes safety takes priority over everything else. This focus on safety is made possible by employing an OHSAS 18001 safety system at every worksite, exhaustive training programs that prepare workers for unexpected incidents and an unrelenting focus on ensuring all sites and equipment are constantly safe and well maintained.

That’s a wrap on Apprentice Week 2025! 🎉
This year, we welcomed 21 new apprentices from across the country, with branches from Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, and Darwin represented. It was a week packed with inductions, HR and WHS sessions, and guest speakers from Australian Retirement Trust—plus plenty of action off the clock, from bowling and crazy golf to high-speed go-karting! 🏎️
A huge congratulations to Martin Wright, our Apprentice of the Year, who took home the Brian Childs Memorial Award, presented by Brian’s father, Mr Peter Childs.
A massive thank you to everyone who made this event possible, especially Paul Howard, Peter Napper, and Michele Walsh—your efforts are truly appreciated!
