A powerful machine in a compact body

Designed and built with an emphasis on the environment, operator comfort and safety, the ZW80-5B wheel loaders have been developed to perfection. Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia Pty Ltd (HCA) has added a compact ZW80-5B wheel loader to its fleet.

The strategic decision to introduce the compact ZW80-5B to the Australian market was driven by a thorough analysis of the evolving needs within the landscaping, agricultural and construction industries. Recognising the demand for a versatile and efficient solution, we aimed to provide customers with a compact yet powerful option’ stating David Gallina; HCA’s Product Manager of Wheel Loaders and BELL equipment.

Weighing in at 5,465kgs, the ZW80 starts off strong with a robust 2.9lt diesel engine and hydrostatic drive, featuring a standard manually locking differential. Equipped to handle a Hook-On 0.9 cubic meter GP Bucket boasting a 36.8kN breakout force having strength to efficiently scoop full loads. Additionally, with a top speed of 34 km/h, it offers the speed required to move these loads swiftly.

With operator comfort and safety at the forefront, the ZW80 is equipped with a floor-to-ceiling tinted glass front window, providing a 360° unobstructed view to the rear, along with LED working lights (front and rear). Sliding side windows and lock-back doors enable flow-through air ventilation, ensuring both the machine and the operator can maintain maximum productivity throughout the year.

The walk-through design provides convenient access from either the right or left, featuring safety handrails and large steps mounted on both sides. Daily maintenance is simplified with the wide-open engine cover and low-profile counterweight. With a sound-insulated design, low-noise engine, and rubber-mounted enclosure frame and hydraulics, it creates a secure and quiet work environment.

The loader’s adjustable suspension seat cushions against shocks and vibrations while providing an extra-wide seatbelt that adjusts for an exceptionally comfortable fit. Featuring an oscillating axle to handle irregular terrain, ensuring a smooth ride and stable load-carrying capability. A wrap-around counterweight creates a low centre of gravity, enhancing stability during both loading and travel.

Hitachi’s commitment to delivering reliable and durable machines is evident in the robust support structures and the use of large pins and bearings in the ZW80’s centre pin area. The side-by-side arrangement of the aluminium radiator and oil cooler allows for convenient access during routine maintenance and cleaning.

The HST control system facilitates easy manoeuvring between work modes and ensures a seamless transition between speed changes, providing smooth start-ups on slopes and excellent traction across all speed ranges.

The new auto-mode feature automatically engages and disengages the engine based on the machine’s travel speed, preventing unnecessary pitching and saving fuel. This is especially helpful during lighter work when frequent on-and-off cycles occur.  The new Eco Mode reduces engine RPMs when full power is not required. The ZW80 is the smallest machine in Hitachi’s wheel loader line to incorporate Eco Mode, cutting fuel consumption by approximately 10% when full power is not necessary.

The ZW80’s controls incorporate a comprehensive set of audible and visual service alerts. The differential lock switch is conveniently located alongside the joystick, offering easy access to a power boost on demand. The inching pedal enables the machine to decelerate while keeping the engine at higher RPMs and ensures positive braking at the bottom of the pedal stroke.

Tailored for demanding environments, the ZW80 is built with a focus on robust performance, making it well-suited for the challenges encountered in agricultural, landscaping, and construction industries. Equipped with a hook-type quick coupler as a standard feature, it enables effortless attachment switching directly from the cab. This functionality facilitates swift and smooth replacement of various working tools and buckets, enhancing efficiency in tasks across diverse applications.

In addition to providing adaptability across a range of industries, the ZW80 demonstrates HCA’s dedication to delivering innovative and personalised solutions to customers throughout diverse sectors in Australia. The Hitachi ZW80 ensures you receive all the essential features of a compact wheel loader and more!

This week we recognised and thanked the incredible women across our business.

From workshops and mine sites to branches and offices, the leadership, capability, energy and perspective they bring every day continues to shape the future of our company.

As Ray Kitic shares in this message, our commitment goes beyond recognition. We remain focused on strengthening the pathways and opportunities that support the growth and success of women across our organisation.
Celebrating International Women’s Day

Today we recognise International Women’s Day and celebrate the contributions of women across our business and the wider construction and mining industries.

From the workshop floor and mine sites to engineering, operations, and leadership, women continue to play an important role in shaping the future of our industry.

At Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia, we’re proud to work alongside talented women across our branches, supporting innovation, capability, and progress every day.

Happy International Women’s Day!
Six years in the Army.
Now a fourth-year apprentice in Toowoomba.

Taleisha didn’t come into the trades the traditional way. After serving in the Army, she began her apprenticeship elsewhere but felt she wasn’t getting the hands-on experience needed to properly build her skills.

That changed when she joined the team.

Today her weeks can include new builds in the workshop, site work at mines, or jobs at local quarries. She works on loaders and mining equipment, services machines, installs pumps and supports major builds — backed by formal OEM training and experienced technicians around her.

Like every apprentice, she has made mistakes. On one job she damaged a seal during installation. She reported it straight away. The team worked through what happened and how to correct it.

That is how competence is built.

Six months ago, she completed her first solo service on a customer machine. It was a small milestone, but an important one — proof of progress and trust earned.

No two days look the same. That is what she values most.

Her focus now is finishing her apprenticeship and continuing her career as a tradesperson long term.

This is what development looks like:

Experience. Accountability. Support.

And technicians who are built to last.
From Trade Assistant to Apprentice Plant Mechanic 👏

At our Wacol branch, Nick is stepping into the next chapter of his journey.

Starting out as a Trade Assistant, Nick has now taken the leap into an Apprentice Plant Mechanic role - bringing hands-on experience, a strong work ethic, and a clear focus on safety.

For Nick, safety isn’t just a checklist. It’s about looking out for your team, doing the job properly, and making sure everyone goes home the way they arrived.

And he’s just getting started.

Nick is looking forward to getting up close with our mining equipment and continuing to build his skills alongside the team.

The future’s looking solid. 💪
